PUBLIC NOTICE CONDUCTING OF INSURANCE BUSINESS WITH INSURANCE
The public is advised that it is an offence, pursuant to section 11 of the Insurance Act, No 13 of 2007, to purchase insurance from a company which is not registered in Antigua and Barbuda to conduct insurance business. Upon application, under special circumstances, the Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC) may grant approval for the purchase of insurance from an insurance company where it is satisfied that it is not possible to obtain similar protection from an insurer which is registered in Antigua and Barbuda. The public is further advised that under section 15 (2) of the Insurance Act No 13 of 2007, all registered insurance companies are required to display their certificate of registration in a prominent place to which the public has access at each of their business locations. The date of the certificate should be examined to ensure that the licence is valid at the date of the proposed transaction. A listing of registered insurance companies is published on the FSRC’s website. FSRC can also be contacted directly to confirm the registration status of an insurance company.
